BLOUNT COUNTY, TN. – A Knoxville man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he shot and injured a man in Blount County on Thursday evening.
According to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a residence on Garrett Lane around 7:25 p.m. on Jan. 15 after receiving a report of a shooting. When deputies arrived, they found a 39-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his legs.
The victim was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment and was released on Saturday, authorities said.
Investigators identified Orlando Kartize Witherow, 44, of Wilson Avenue in Knoxville, as the suspected shooter. Officials said the shooting is believed to have stemmed from a domestic assault involving a female victim who was present at the time of the incident.
On Friday evening, deputies with the U.S. Marshals Smoky Mountain Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Witherow near Cherry Street in Knoxville.
Witherow is charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, domestic assault, and driving on a suspended driver’s license. He is currently being held at the Blount County Correctional Facility pending a hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court. Bond amounts and a court date have not yet been set.
The sheriff’s office said Witherow is currently serving federal probation related to a prior drug conviction. The incident remains under investigation.
