Blount County Sheriff’s Office is Asking for Public Help After a Hit and Run

MARYVILLE, TENNESSEE – Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual who was involved in a hit and run accident on Peach Orchard Road Thursday afternoon that took the life of a Maryville man.
Gary C. Burchfield, age 82, of Peach Orchard Road, Maryville, was pronounced deceased at Blount Memorial Hospital Thursday afternoon. An autopsy on Mr. Burchfield was performed this morning at the Knox County Regional Forensic Center. The preliminary results of the autopsy confirmed that the injuries Mr. Burchfield sustained appear to be consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
At around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to the 2700 block of Peach Orchard Road to the report of an injured man lying near the roadway. He was taken by AMR Ambulance Service to BMH and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Deputies are asking individuals who live near 2752 Peach Orchard Road and who have security cameras installed around their homes to check your cameras to see if the incident may have been captured on camera. We would also like to hear from any individuals who may have information or may have been an eyewitness to the accident. The accident likely occurred at around 1 p.m. Thursday.
Please call the non-emergency number at Blount County Communications at (865)983-3620 or the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Office at (865)273-5155 if you have any information that may assist in solving this case.
