TVA Company Issues Largest Request for Carbon Free Energy

KNOXVILLE, TN – The Tennessee Valley Authority is pursuing a conscious perspective for a clean energy future. Today on June 12, 2022, the TVA company issued the largest request for carbon – free energy in the nation.

History

The TVA Act had been signed in the 1930s to provide reforestation and flood control for the Tennessee River.

Since, it has grown to create the largest hydropower construction programs since 1940. TVA has brought new ways to think about conserving energy as well.

With the company’s mission being affordable electric power, flood control and economic development.

Today

The request is up to 5,000 megawatts of carbon-free energy that must be admitted by 2029.

Following the release, the TVA’s president said,

“We are taking this bold, decisive action because TVA is uniquely positioned to lead in reducing carbon emissions for the region and the nation,” said Jeff Lyash, TVA president and chief executive officer. “This announcement is a clear signal to our industry, our partners, and our nation that we need to move further and faster, together, to make a cleaner future a reality.”

The corporate agency works for business customers and local power distributors for at least seven of the southeastern states surrounding Tennessee. Also, TVA ensures protection of the Tennessee River with flood control and land management.

Following the release,

“TVA is executing a defined strategy to reduce carbon from 2005 levels by 70% by 2030, 80% by 2035, and aspire to be net-zero by 2050. To support its carbon-reduction efforts, the agency is aggressively exploring and accelerating carbon-free technologies and moving to bring an additional 10,000 megawatts of solar energy capacity online by 2035.”

Continuing, the company is hoping to meet new energy security goals nationwide by decarbonizing technologies and immigrating customer chosen clean energy for the economy.

TVA company places high priority on their transparent journey to decarbonization, financial health, and strategic planning.

Overall, the company’s award-winning goals like the Green invest program have generated 3 billion investments across the seven states and this swift movement towards renewable energy will impact future investments.
