The City of Maryville will be conducting a stream survey and inventory of stormwater discharge within the Maryville city limits. This survey includes portions of the Brown Creek, Culton Creek, Duncan Branch, Gallagher Creek, Lackey Creek, Laurel Bank Branch, Peppermint Branch, Pistol Creek, and Springfield Branch watersheds. This assessment is one of the requirements to allow Maryville to obtain its National Pollution Discharge Elimination System Phase II permit. The goal of this project is to gain a better understanding of the health of Maryville’s streams. Areas that may benefit from stream restoration or stormwater infrastructure repair will also be identified.
The city has contracted with Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) to perform the fieldwork for this study. CEC environmental scientists will be traversing all the major streams to photograph and document their condition. Streambank erosion sites, undercut pipes, unshaded stream sections, trash dumps, and other areas of environmental concern will be assessed. Field staff will only record the condition of the streams. They are not present to remedy or address any potential problems.
